ABOUT US

In a speed: life, dreams, and families can be taken away and most of these times it can end on the road. Today, it's not only the vehicles that are growing in numbers but also accidents that happen every day.

 

According to the World Health Organization, road accidents claimed the lives of 1.35 million people in 2018. As per Philippine data, 12,000 Filipinos die on the road each year.

Dahan Daan is a campaign that promotes in creating safer roads through adhering in the core competencies of A.R.E.A. It aims to encourage the stakeholders to take responsibility and accountability, as well as develop awareness and empowerment in road safety. Building safer roads do not only save lives but also preserves dreams and families.

MISSION

To raise awareness and knowledge about a global issue of taking safer roads for people, industry, and communities in the Philippines.

Awareness. This core competency focuses on establishing knowledge to the motorists. This covers Road Regulations and Signage, Vehicular Accidents, Penalties - crucial information that highly promotes security and safety when you are on the road.

Traffic Sign

Responsibility. This core competency focuses on the obligation of the motorists. This covers details on Driver’s License, Wearing of Safety Gears. At the end of the day, no matter how much information that the motorist is aware of, it will always be a question of how responsible they are in applying that knowledge.

On the Wheel

Empowerment. This core competency focuses on the rights of the motorists.  Unfortunately, personal conflicts between authority and the drivers have caused unwanted hazards. Thus, we include the Rights of the Motorists to empower them and avoid them from being exploited by other people.

Motorcycle Riders

Accountability. This focuses on the responsibility of public officials in building roads that can help in mitigating the problem of vehicular accidents. This covers topic such as Roadway Improvements. In some research, Dahan Daan discovered that poor road constructions are one of the causes of vehicular accidents.

AUDIENCE
Crossing the Street

Dahan Daan Campaign’s main target audience is the motorists, or any individual driving an automobile or any other road vehicle, across the country. This includes Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers, commercial vehicle drivers (e.g. delivery riders), private car and motorcycle drivers, and recreational drivers such as race car drivers and bikers. The campaign’s target audience also extends to other road vehicle drivers such as cyclists and drivers. Its mission to raise awareness and promote road safety precautions also puts the general audience at stake who may wander along the streets or happen to become vehicular passengers from time to time.

This is a collaborative effort of the selected students from the Department of Journalism and Communication of the University of San Jose-Recoletos.
